INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Last season's All-Star Game played out in a way that the NBA hopes to never experience again. So, the league sent a message: Make the All-Star Game better. Boston's Jayson Tatum set an All-Star Game record by scoring 55 points and the game had a total — total — of four free throws, all of them shot by Antetokounmpo's team. “I’m proud of what the guys did at the in-season tournament and I’m looking forward to the All-Star Game. Durant is a 14-time selection and set to actually play in his 11th All-Star Game.

Mark Cuban may have made his billions as an entrepreneur and investor — but he's received some of his best advice from athletes. It's powerful, Cuban explained, because it applies to every field, from sports and sales to computer programming and creative writing. "Whatever it may be, you've got to keep doing it and doing it," said Cuban, who owns the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. "A lot of people, particularly in sports, but in life as well, they take the shortcuts always," said Cuban. To an extent, he's been practicing it his entire life, particularly as an entrepreneur.

Dirk Nowitzki went into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and now his homeland stands atop the men’s international basketball world. Dennis Schroder scored 28 points, Franz Wagner added 19 and Germany capped off an unbeaten run through the World Cup by holding off Serbia 83-77 in the final on Sunday night. It was Germany’s first World Cup title; before now, its top showing in the event was a bronze at Indianapolis in 2002. Germany went 8-0 in the tournament, becoming the fifth consecutive champion to go unbeaten. But Serbia went on a surprise run, fueled by inspiration the team took from the loss of reserve forward Borisa Simanic.

CNN —On the eve of his Hall of Fame induction, NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki has said that his daughter is “mostly embarrassed” about any “hoopla” surrounding her dad. Alongside the German, two-time NBA champion Pau Gasol, four-time NBA champion Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, Dwyane Wade and the 1976 U.S. Olympic Women’s basketball team, among others, will be inducted. However, at a press conference on Tuesday, Nowitzki admitted that his impending inauguration has not yet fully resonated with his children. Nowitzki scored 35,223 points across 21 seasons in Dallas, playing 1,667 games for the only NBA team he ever featured for – only John Stockton played more games for one team across his career. His crowning moment arguably came in 2011 when he led the Mavs to the NBA title, the organization’s first and only championship in its history.

“I wanted that moment to belong to the players,” Cuban said. “And as it turned out, Dirk holding the trophy over his head has been iconic. “I don’t think it’s as joyful a moment as it could be for the players,” said Julian Gressel, a midfielder for the U.S. men’s soccer team. He had to wait for Arthur Blank, the co-founder of Home Depot, to raise the M.L.S. trophy (Blank even got his own confetti cannon shower) when Atlanta United won the title in 2018.

“He’s the biggest film nerd there is in the NBA,” Hanlen laughs. The ultimate scorerDespite his ‘Joel Troel’ alter-ego, Embiid’s approach to the game shows he is everything but a joker who fools around. Speaking after being named MVP, Embiid said: “I’d say the biggest key of it is, obviously, I’m all about family. Arthur is named after Embiid’s late brother who passed away shortly after the 2014 NBA Draft. But improbable doesn’t mean impossible.”Hanlen then summed up Embiid’s overall approach by saying: “I would just say he’s obsessed with greatness.

Feb 18 (Reuters) - Diana Taurasi, the WNBA's all-time leading scorer, has signed a multi-year contract to remain with the Phoenix Mercury, the team said on Saturday. The deal means the 40-year-old Taurasi, a three-time WNBA champion whose name is all over the Mercury franchise's record book, will play at least a 19th season in the league in 2023. Taurasi, whom the Mercury selected first overall in the 2004 WNBA Draft, holds franchise records -- either outright or shared -- in 16 categories, including seasons, points scored, defensive rebounds, assists and steals. A five-time Olympic champion, Taurasi averaged 16.7 points, 3.9 assists and 3.4 rebounds during the 2022 season. The 2023 WNBA regular season is scheduled to tip off on May 19.
"I know what I bring to the table every single night and what I can do out on this floor. "I always say Michael Jordan is the GOAT. Former NBA coach George Karl, whose teams went up against both Jordan and James, also weighed into the GOAT debate last month. Karl suggested Jordan would have been even more dominant in today's game amid a league-wide trend in favour of offense. "Anyone who is debating Michael's GOAT status doesn't realize he would average a 40 PPG triple double in the modern game!"
[1/3] Feb 7, 2023; Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (6) celebrates after breaking the all-time scoring record in the third quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Crypto.com Arena. For almost four decades fellow Lakers great Abdul-Jabbar had owned the mark and watched as James climbed the scoring table. The Chosen One, now widely referred to as "King James," finished the night with 38 points, bringing his career total to 38,390. The scoring record adds new fuel to the debate over who is the greatest basketball player ever, James or Jordan. "Me personally, I'm going to take myself against anybody that has ever played this game," said James after setting the record.
CNN —Luka Doncić racked up an incredible 41-point triple-double as his Dallas Mavericks beat Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors 116-113. Doncić finished with 41 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists – his fifth triple-double of the season – and for good measure, added four steals and a block. Curry has excelled this season and is averaging 31.4 points per game but is struggling to carry the Warriors. Ron Jenkins/Getty ImagesFor all of Doncić’s brilliance, it was another night where Curry was let down by his teammates. After the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr addressed the team’s poor start to the season, “We have to expect that teams are going to make shots against us.
